Yep, no reason not to consider “partner” as just a short form of partner in crime, it has the same varied meanings. 😛
One who by some misfortune happens to come up short on the means of pants procurement ends up panting for shorts! We’re getting lazy too, here, the home shoes are always referred to as shoes, despite really being espadrilles. 😛
